London Marathon 2024 The first long run…

I’ve never run a full marathon before! Yeah, I may have run/walked a half but never run for 4-5 hours without stopping! 😬

In 2020 I went through a really bad time and not only did my diabetes suffer but my mental health suffered too! I started doing couch to 5k! 5k Led to 10k and I ended up doing my fastest 10k at the London Landmark 10km in 52 minutes! This ignited my passion for running but also the need to want to challenge myself and prove that type 1 doesn’t stop you!

2024 marks 2 important points in my life! It will be my 35th Diaversary and also my 40th Birthday and to mark the occasion further and challenge myself I was lucky enough to get a place in the Marathon for one of the charities close to my heart and pancreas…JDRF!

I’ve been training 4 times a week since August but now the official training gets under way.

The biggest challenge I am finding at present whilst being on a closed loop is that I have hypos and need a lot of carbohydrate whilst running and then as soon as I finish, my sugars spike and I become ketotic despite food and fluids.

I have an upcoming appointment in 2 weeks with my Diabetes specialist team who are amazing and hugely supportive! I look forward to finding out more about long endurance sport whilst being on a closed loop!

I will keep you posted …

Below is my cgm diary, carbs and running diary⬇️
